ROME (AP) — The Italian Olympic committee has given Damiano Caruso a one-year backdated doping suspension and handed Danilo Andrenacci a two-year ban.
Caruso’s suspension ended in October, allowing him to continue racing. But any results he obtained since the sentence began Oct. 6, 2010, were disqualified.
Caruso’s Liquigas Cannondale team has said the incident occurred in 2007, before he turned pro and joined the team. Italy’s anti-doping prosecutors had accused him of complicity in trying to obtain banned substances, though it didn’t specify which ones.
Andrenacci’s sentence runs from Monday through Dec. 19, 2013. CONI didn’t specify the infractions.
