PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say two homeless men sleeping in a warehouse area along the Willamette River in Portland have been shot in what appears to be a random, drive-by attack.

One victim was conscious when he was sent to the hospital Wednesday morning, but police said his chest wound could be life-threatening.

The other man was grazed. Neither was immediately identified.

Witnesses told police the shots were fired from a black pickup truck.

The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/yfa9wT) quoted a police spokesman as saying the attack appeared to be at random, and he’d never heard of anything like it.

The men were near the eastern end of the Morrison Bridge. The east-side industrial and warehouse area is a popular sleeping spot for homeless people in Portland.
