MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Chicago Cubs All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro arrived at spring training Friday and said he’s ready to concentrate fully on baseball after spending much of his offseason facing sexual assault allegations.
Castro, who led the National League last year with 207 hits in his first full season in the majors, met briefly with Cubs manager Dale Sveum (swaym).
The allegations arose the day after last season ended, when a Chicago woman accused Castro of assaulting her after she met him at a downtown bar and went to his apartment. No charges have been filed against Castro and his attorneys have said he did nothing wrong.
