SEATTLE (AP) — Police say a firebomb was set under the ATM at a south Seattle bank but it failed to go off.

Patrol officers responded about 6:30 a.m. Friday to a report of a suspicious package in the cash machine foyer of the Chase branch on Martin Luther King Jr. Way and S. Othello St.

A bomb squad rendered the incendiary device safe. The department’s Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating.

Police spokeswoman Rene Witt says they have no leads and there have been no similar arsons recently. Fire Department spokesman Kyle Moore also says he has seen nothing like this.

A witness told KOMO Radio the device was two bottles wrapped in tape in a box with wires.

Traffic and Sound Transit light rail service were disrupted until about 9 a.m.
