OBERHOF, Germany (AP) — Arnd Peiffer of Germany rallied to claim a 10K sprint event on Saturday for the world champion’s first biathlon World Cup win of the season.

The 24-year-old Peiffer was 2.1 seconds behind Simon Fourcade with 600 meters left but managed to defeat the Frenchman in 25 minutes 57.5 seconds, with one penalty.

Fourcade, who shot cleanly in difficult conditions, finished 1.1 second back. Olympic champion Evgeny Ustyugov of Russia, who also shot cleanly, finished third.

Peiffer earned his fifth World Cup victory, all in the sprints.
