I offer a counterpoint to Beverly Bonner’s Dec. 31 letter, “Learn more about angels,” in which she defends Mormons as the being the “other sheep” depicted in the Bible in John 10:15 and Revelation 14:6-7. Most recognized theologians credit Jesus’ reference to being a distinction between the Jews and Gentiles, which Christ often referred to as making up “one flock” with Himself as the “one shepherd.”
At that time, no one had ever heard of an Angel Moroni, nor do I believe that there ever was such an angel. It is my opinion that Moroni was a figment of Joseph Smith’s often incorrect imagination.
People should also give serious thought to the Holy Scripture in Revelation 22:18 and 19 where Jesus states that if anyone, including, but not limited to, the Mormon church, adds to or takes away from the Holy Scriptures, he is condemned to hell and “God will add to him the plagues described in this book” (the Bible). That is a serious warning.
The Bible is never a “companion volume” of anything. It is the unadulterated Holy word of God, and either you believe it or you don’t.
