BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — The Whatcom County sheriff says a fatal stabbing appears to be self-defense during a fight involving gang members at Maple Falls, about 20 miles northeast of Bellingham.

Sheriff Bill Elfo told The Bellingham Herald (http://is.gd/Fsmeir ) the fight late Saturday night involved members of a gang known as Insane Clown Posse, after a rap group.

One man was reportedly struck in the head with a chain during the fight. Another man defending himself with a pocket knife fatally stabbed a 20-year-old Maple Falls man. Friends took him to a fire station for help, and he died in an ambulance on the way to a hospital.
