NEW YORK (AP) — New York City activists protesting a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision about campaign finance will move their rally up the street in order to comply with a judge’s ruling that they can’t protest in front of a federal courthouse.
Activists plan to “occupy” courthouses in more than 100 cities on Friday to protest a 2010 Supreme Court ruling that removed most limits on corporate and labor spending in federal elections.
A coalition called Move to Amend said the protest will kick off petition drives for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United v. FEC.
A New York City judge ruled Thursday that demonstrators do not have a First Amendment right to protest in front of a Manhattan federal courthouse. Protesters say they will rally in Foley Square near the courthouse instead.
