Notes and numbers:
• Portland’s home win streak is at 17 games, a new Winterhawks record. 1993-94 Winterhawks won 16 consecutive home games.
• Former Winterhawks team captain and head coach Brent Peterson will be inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame on Feb. 3. The ceremony will take place prior to that night’s game against the Everett Silvertips at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.
Peterson played for two seasons for the Winterhawks from 1976-78, and coached the Portland squad that won the 1998 Memorial Cup. He was the team’s head coach for five seasons before joining the expansion Nashville Predators as an assistant coach. Peterson remained behind the bench through the end of last season, and is now an advisor in their hockey operations department.
Peterson has Parkinson’s Disease, and auctions during the game will raise money for the Peterson Parkinson Foundation.
“With all of the people the team could put into the Hall of Fame, I’m honored to be inducted. I love the Winterhawks. This is a wonderful thing for my family and me,” Peterson said. “I’m sure I’ll be a little emotional with what’s gone on with my surgeries. But my last game as a Winterhawk was the Memorial Cup, and that was a special time. It’s a real honor to come back and do this.”
