PROSSER, Wash. (AP) — Jackie Mincey and Florentino Martinez are friendly competitors.

She delivers the Tri-City Herald and he delivers Yakima Herald-Republic, and their paths often cross on their routes in the Yakima Valley.

The usually wave. On Saturday morning, she saved his life.

Martinez, who lost a leg to diabetes, became stuck in the snow. Mincey got out of her car to give him a push. But as he spun his wheels, his van caught fire. She tried using her hands to push snow on the fire, but it spread.

Martinez finally escaped on his walker with help from Mincey who stayed with him until firefighters and his wife arrived.
