CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns have hired former Minnesota coach Brad Childress as their new offensive coordinator.

Childress, who spent five seasons with the Vikings before he was fired after 10 games in 2010, will join Pat Shurmur’s staff. The two previously worked together for seven seasons on Andy Reid’s staff with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The team confirmed the hire on Friday.

Shurmur served as head coach and coordinator during his first season as Cleveland’s coach. The Browns finished 4-12 and scored just 218 points, only one more than they did as an expansion team in 1999.

Childress recently interviewed for Tampa Bay’s head coaching job
