BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is going on the 15-day disabled list.
The team said Pedroia has a hyperextended right thumb.
Pedroia has not played since injuring the thumb on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics when he landed on the back of his thumb trying to make a diving catch.
Pedroia also missed six games in late May after tearing a muscle in the same thumb. The team said that injury had completely healed.
Pedroia is batting .266 with six home runs and 33 RBIs.
The Red Sox hosted the New York Yankees on Friday night.
