BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have activated outfielder Ryan Sweeney from the disabled list and optioned outfielder Ryan Kalish to Triple-A Pawtucket.
They made the move on Saturday before the second game of a day-night doubleheader in which the New York Yankees won the opener 6-1.
Sweeney started in center field after recovering from inflammation of the left big toe that sent him to the 15-day disabled list on June 17. In his first season with Boston, Sweeney went into the second game batting .292 with no homers and 13 RBIs in 52 games.
Kalish hit .217 with no homers and five RBIs in 18 games.
