Vancouver Jayhawks win Senior Babe Ruth state title

The Vancouver Jayhawks captured the Southern Washington Senior Babe Ruth baseball title on Sunday, defeating host team Camas-Washougal Granite 22-11 at Louis Bloch Park in Camas.

Both teams advance to the Pacific Northwest regional tournament in Kent beginning Thursday.

The Jayhawks went 4-0 in the local tournament.

Justin Rinta was 3 for 3 with a double, home run and six RBI. Jake Shelley was 3 for 4 with five runs scored. Both are recent graduates of Mountain View High School.

Tyler Odenthal was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI for Camas-Washougal.

The Camas-Washougal squad defeated Hamer Electric of Longview 7-6 earlier in the day to earn their spot in the regional.

A four-run sixth inning put Camas-Washougal ahead for good.

Kyle Goodnow was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI, Justin Staat was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Hayden Gibbs was 2 for 3.

The Jayhawks will open regional play in Kent on Thursday, while Camas-Washougal will start Friday.

The regional winner advances to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Welmar, Texas, beginning July 28.
