CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs have signed right-hander Duane Underwood, their second-round pick in last month’s draft.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Underwood was 6-1 with a 2.36 ERA this past season for Pope High School in Marietta, Ga. Underwood, who will turn 18 next week, was the 67th player chosen overall and will report to the team’s minor league complex in Mesa, Ariz.
The Cubs have now signed their first 20 picks in the draft and 29 players overall. Earlier this week, the signed first-round pick Albert Almora, a high school outfielder from Florida.
