PAU, France (AP) — Bradley Wiggins can count on the support of his childhood idol, five-time Tour de France winner Miguel Indurain.
Wiggins said Tuesday that Indurain sent him a neckerchief aficionados are wearing in the bullrings of Pamplona, Spain. Wiggins adds that the scarf was Indurain’s and came with a video message wishing him luck. Wiggins says he and Indurain are “very similar.”
Wiggins has the yellow jersey and is bidding to become the first British rider to win the Tour. With five stages remaining, the former track Olympic champion leads Sky teammate Christopher Froome by 2 minutes, 5 seconds.
Indurain won five straight Tours from 1991 to 1995.
