Thursday at 5 p.m. is the deadline to register for the Fred Flintstone & Friends Charity Bowling Tournament, a fundraiser for The Children’s Center, a low-income mental health clinic.

The entry fee is a suggested tax-deductible donation of $15 in support of one of the 13 characters (from Elvis to Wonder Woman to Fred Flintstone to Poseidon) participating in a Sept. 29 fundraiser for The Children’s Center called Glamorous Gams. (Visit thechildrenscenter.org to learn more about the event, all the characters who’ll appear, and a rundown of the agency’s schedule of fundraisers).

The first fundraiser is set for 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Big Al’s, 16615 S.E. 18th St. This will be an eight pin, no tap tournament, meaning that if a bowler knocks down 8 or 9 pins with the first ball, it will count as a strike. Families are encouraged to participate. Bumper pads are available for small children. Registration is open for individuals or for teams of four.

The Children’s Center serves more than 400 children and their families every week, more than 90 percent of whom live in poverty; due to state budget cuts, the agency’s resources are shrinking.
