TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Sounders say they are in advanced negotiations with German midfielder Christian Tiffert after reports surfaced in Germany that he would be joining the Major League Soccer club on a transfer from Kaiserslautern.
A Sounders spokesman confirmed the negotiations were taking place on Friday morning and an announcement would be made once the signing became official. Agent Richard Motzkin of Wasserman Media Group posted on Twitter on Friday morning that Tiffert, a client of the agency, had signed with Seattle as a designated player.
The 30-year-old Tiffert made 136 appearances for Stuttgart from 2000-06. He then played for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and Duisberg in Germany before joining Kaiserslautern in 2010.
