Johannesburg Smile wins Lemon Drop Kid Stakes

NEW YORK (AP) — Johannesburg Smile and jockey Cornelio Velasquez led all the way Sunday, beating Schoolyard Dreams by a half length in the $88,200 Lemon Drop Kid Stakes at Belmont Park.

The 5-year-old, the lone New York bred in the field, improved to 7 for 22 for trainer Dominic Galluscio. The time was 1:35.48 for the one mile on the fast track.

Johannesburg Smile paid $5.20, $3.10 and $2.10. Schoolyard Dreams returned $5.80 and $2.90 while Alma d’Oro, the 6-5 favorite, paid $2.10 to show.
