Cardinals active Jay, Carpenter from DL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Cardinals have activated outfielders Jon Jay and Matt Carpenter from the disabled list and optioned first baseman Matt Adams and outfielder Adron Chambers to Triple-A Memphis.

St. Louis made the moves before Friday night’s game at Kansas City.

Jay was hitting .343 with two homers and RBIs before spraining his right shoulder and landing on the DL on May 16. He went 3 for 7 with a homer, triple and three RBIs in two rehab games.

Carpenter was hitting .288 with three homers and 20 RBIs before hitting the DL on May 23 with a strained right oblique. He was 4 for 17 during his rehab stint.

Adams was hitting .244 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 27 games with St. Louis. Chambers hit .250 with three RBIs in 23 games.
