Letter: All should wear life jackets

The Columbian
Published: June 21, 2012, 5:00pm

Life jackets are a safety device, not something you keep on your boat just to follow laws. I have been on rivers and watched boats flip, and things can go bad fast. There have been recent accidental drownings of people while fishing in the Columbia River. Most were not wearing life jackets.

The life jacket is of no use to you when you aren’t wearing it and you put your life at risk. Even though there aren’t laws that enforce persons over 13 years old to wear a life jacket, we all should wear life jackets as a safety precaution.
