SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon lawmakers are on track to adjourn the legislative session as soon as Monday evening.
A key legislative committee is scheduled to vote on an education measure and several budget bills that were stalled for weeks while Republicans and Democrats hammered out a compromise. It’s the first sign of progress on the last pieces of legislation that lawmakers identified as top priorities.
The Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to advance Gov. John Kitzhaber’s measure requiring school districts to sign achievement compacts with the state, which would advance it to the full House and Senate. The panel also was scheduled to vote on a plan to rebalance the state budget.
A separate legislative committee is scheduled to take action on a compromise plan aimed at helping homeowners facing foreclosure.
