YUBA CITY, Calif. (AP) — An Oregon man convicted of killing and mutilating his stepfather, then scattering his body parts in a Northern California river, has been ordered to spend the rest of his life in prison.
The Appeal-Democrat (http://bit.ly/xs4xQ1 ) reports that Michael Shaine Dwayne Gold was sentenced on Friday by a Sutter County judge to life without the chance of parole for killing Elmer Eugene McDonald in November 2009.
Prosecutors say the 40-year-old Gold waited for McDonald to fall asleep in his Yolo County home, then slit his throat because he feared McDonald would tell the police that he was selling methamphetamine.
They say Gold then sawed off McDonald’s head, legs and arms, placed them in a bag and drove to Sutter County, where he scattered them along the Feather River.
