LAS VEGAS (AP) — Family members are planning a memorial at a picnic area near where the body of an avid hiker was found dead at Rock Canyon National Conservation Area near Las Vegas.

Garnett Kirk says the 4 p.m. Friday event will be at the Red Springs picnic area in Calico Basin off State Route 159.

The body of Kirk’s 46-year-old brother, Ronald Kirk, was found Saturday in rugged terrain at the popular hiking area about 20 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip.

Family members think he fell while hiking in mid-January.

The Clark County coroner hasn’t determined a cause of death, but police and family members say foul play isn’t suspected.

Ronald Kirk text-messaged family members that he was going hiking several days before he was reported missing Jan. 22.
