ST. LOUIS (AP) — Penn State has clinched its second consecutive national wrestling title despite having just one wrestler competing of the final day of the NCAA tournament.
This is the third national title for Penn State, with its first coming in 1958.
The Nittany Lions led the tournament with 128.5 points after Saturday’s morning session. They have five wrestlers going for individual titles in the night session.
Penn State is followed by Minnesota with 113.5 points, Iowa (103.5) and Cornell (90.5).
Dylan Alton was the only Penn State wrestler competing in the morning session, which determined the third through eighth places. He finished third with a 6-2 decision over Northwestern’s Jason Welch.
