SEATTLE (AP) — A 36-year-old gang member has been sentenced to a half century in prison in the April 2010 murder of a boy who was mistaken for a rival gang member.
Curtis Walker was convicted in King County Superior Court of murdering 12-year-old Alajawan Brown, who was shot in the back outside a convenience store south of Seattle. Walker was sentenced Thursday.
The boy had been returning home after buying a pair of football cleats with money he’d earned doing yard work. Prosecutors said Walker looked at the boy’s clothing and mistakenly thought Brown was a member of a rival Crips gang involved in a nearby shootout just minutes earlier. Walker was a 20-year member of another gang.
