KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The New York Yankees have put infielder Eric Chavez on the seven-day concussion disabled list and signed Jayson Nix to a major league contract.
The Yankees made the moves before Thursday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals. Nix was in the starting lineup, playing left field and batting ninth.
Chavez hurt himself while attempting to make a diving catch Wednesday at Baltimore.
Nix attended spring training as a non-roster invitee and batted .323 over 18 games. He was out for two weeks with a bruised left calf, and spent the past eight games at Triple-A, where he was hitting .233 with four RBIs.
To make space on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred right-hander Joba Chamberlain to the 60-day DL. Chamberlain dislocated his ankle in March.
