SEATTLE (AP) — A new Issaquah business turns grocery store food waste into a liquid fertilizer.

A couple of former Microsoft employees founded the business called WISErg.

The Seattle Times reports (http://is.gd/7vc5i0 ) they’ve been developing the process at the PCC Natural Markets store in Issaquah. The store produces about 700 pounds of food waste a week, which has been composted.

Now, store employees will dump the food waste into a machine that grinds it up and extracts nutrients. They are transported to a processor that creates the liquid fertilizer, which is sold at all nine PCC stores.

WISErg hopes the “full-circle” waste cycle will appeal to large producers of food waste.
