PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Former state lawmaker and vice provost at Portland State University Mike Burton pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree official misconduct for false expense reports.
Multnomah County Circuit Judge Eric Bergstrom sentenced the 70-year-old to a year-and-a-half of probation.
The Oregonian reports (http://is.gd/udCbd9) Burton has paid back $4,500 for a trip to Europe he falsely claimed as a work expense.
He resigned under pressure in June from his job at Portland State University that paid $143,000 a year.
Burton was elected to the Oregon House in 1984, representing north Portland, and served five terms. He also led the Metro Council as executive officer from 1994 to 2002.
