James S. Roberts, in his May 11 letter, “One man can’t solve jobs issue,” notes that “The president has little or no power to put people back to work.” I bet when Roberts voted for Barack Obama, that is not what he envisioned.
Just think of a few things the president has done to stop job creation: the National Labor Relations Board, under President Obama, filed a complaint against Boeing for attempting to build a nonunion factory; rejected the Midwest pipeline; his moratorium on gulf oil drilling resulted in rigs leaving America for Mexican and Cuban waters; sued Arizona for attempting to save jobs for legals rather than illegals; rejected most drilling for oil and gas in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; and is trying to shut down coal-fired plants as fast as he can.
I propose some deals Roberts may like. Let the consumer buy their electricity from whom they wish. Stop or deny coal exports from Washington state, along with stopping all petroleum imports into the state and you will save more lives and illness than can be counted. None of this stuff the president attempts to stop takes “massive government spending.” Let the free market work.
Yes, Roberts, one man can do a lot.
