Houston Baptist defeats Arkansas-Pine Bluff 72-68

HONOLULU (AP) — Marcus Davis scored 22 points and James Harper added 11 as Houston Baptist defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 72-68 in the Rainbow Classic on Friday night.

In the season opener for both teams, the Huskies used a 10-1 second-half run to break open the game before holding on.

Terrell Kennedy led the Golden Lions with 19 points. Tevin Hammond added 14 points and six steals, and Davon Haynes had 13 points and 12 rebounds.

A Harper 3-pointer gave Houston Baptist a 10-point lead with 2:08 remaining, but Arkansas-Pine Bluff scored the next eight points. Lazabian Jackson ended the surge with a layup to make the score 68-66, but the Golden Lions were then forced to foul, and the Huskies protected the lead at the line.

Jackson finished with 12 points.
