PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Dre Winston scored 16 points and Portland State opened the season with a 77-58 victory over Pacific (Ore.) in the season opener for both teams Friday night.

Aaron Moore added 13 points for the Vikings, who finished 17-15 overall and 10-6 in the Big Sky last season.

Danny Brakebush had 19 points for Pacific, which went 9-16 overall last season. The Boxers, from Forest Grove, Ore., are part of the Division III Northwest Conference and counted the game as an exhibition.

Portland State went up 19-11 early on Gary Winston’s jumper. The Boxers kept it close and narrowed it to 26-24 on Daniel Zitani’s jumper, but the Vikings responded with an 11-2 run capped by Winston’s basket to go up 37-26.

After a 39-28 lead at the half, the Vikings pulled away to go up 55-36 after Harvey Michael’s jumper and a free throw. Portland State cruised the rest of the way.
