TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Roger Penske says if he fields three IndyCars next season, he hopes Ryan Briscoe will still be the driver.

Penske told The Associated Press on Sunday the issue is not with Briscoe, but whether the organization fields two or three cars. Should sponsorship develop, Penske says “I sure hope” Briscoe is the driver.

Penske entered Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway with Brad Keselowski leading the NASCAR points standings. Penske has never won a title in NASCAR’s top Sprint Cup Series.

He fell short of winning the IndyCar championship this year when Will Power crashed out of the season finale. But Penske says he was touched Sunday by NASCAR drivers approaching the owner to offer words of support about Power.
