MIAMI (AP) — Landon Donovan is not with the U.S. national team for training Tuesday, missing the workout so his left knee could be checked by a team doctor.
Donovan’s status is not immediately known. He was injured last weekend and had planned to have an MRI. His knee then improved enough for him to fly to Miami and train with the national team.
Donovan is part of the 24-man roster that was announced Monday for two World Cup qualifying matches. The games could be critical to the Americans’ bid to play in the 2014 tournament in Brazil.
The U.S. plays at Antigua and Barbuda on Friday and is home against Guatemala on Oct. 16.
