ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Chris Amrhein stepped in for injured Jeff Mathews and threw for 523 yards — Cornell’s second-highest total ever — to pace the Big Red over Monmouth (N.J.) 41-38 Saturday.

Only Mathews, who was listed day-to-day with a neck injury, has thrown for more yards (548) in a game for the Big Red (3-2). Amrhein, a senior getting his first extended playing time, completed 33 of 56.

Eleven completions went to Luke Tasker for a school-record 280 yards and a touchdown. Tasker has 47 catches for 764 yards this season.

Completions of 41 and 45 yards to Tasker set up Cornell’s first two fourth-quarter touchdowns for a 34-23 lead. Both drives ended with short runs by Silas Nacita, who rushed for four touchdowns.

Kyle Frazier completed 35 of 45 passes for 451 yards and four touchdowns and is now second in career passing yards for the Hawks (3-3) with 6,275.
