On the sidelines: District double

The Camas High School cross country teams completed step one.

Both the boys and girls captured the 4A district team championship Thursday, at Lewisville Park in Battle Ground.

Alexa Efraimson earned first place for the Papermakers with a time of 18 minutes, 9 seconds. She beat Alexis Fuller of Union to the finish line by 37 seconds.

Alissa Pudlitzke placed third in 18:54 and Maddie Woodson followed in fourth in 19:10. Camille Parsons (20:14) and Alexa Jones (20:51) snagged seventh and eighth place. Sarah Garner (21:07) and Miranda Hollar (21:30) rounded out the rotation in 11th and 14th place.

The top five places for the Camas girls added up to 23 points. Union was second at 52 points and Heritage took third with 96 points.

Andrew Duffy (16:29), Tucker Boyd (16:34) and Andrew Kaler (16:51) clinched third, fourth and fifth place for the Papermakers in the boys race. Jackson Cutler (17:10) earned seventh place. Oliver Stanchfield (17:13), Riley Hein (17:14) and Zach Hein (17:15) followed in 10th, 11th and 12th place.

The top five places for the Camas boys added up to 29 points. Skyview was second with 56 points and Battle Ground took third with 70 points.

Next up is the West Central District Championships Saturday, Oct. 27, on the American Lake golf course in Tacoma.

Washougal girls win league championship

The Washougal High School girls cross country team won the league championship race Thursday, at Hockinson Meadows. It’s the first league title for the Panthers since they joined the 2A Greater St. Helens League in 2006.

Karina Miller led the Panthers with a fourth place performance, crossing the finish line in 21:31. Paige Roberts earned seventh place in 21:58. Meredith Collins (22:34), Hannah Wright (22:39) and Yaneli Martinez (22:50) rounded out the rotation in ninth, 10th and 11th place.

The Washougal boys settled for second place behind Mark Morris. Sean Eustis (16:18) and Isaac Stinchfield (16:21) grabbed first and second place for the Panthers, and Thomas Normandeau (17:25) followed in sixth place. Nicolas Velardi (18:28) notched 13th place and Collin Manning (19:23) claimed 20th.

Next up is the 2A district championships Saturday, Oct. 27, at Evergreen State College in Olympia.
