The American Diabetes Association is offering back-to-school workshops for parents of kids with Type I diabetes.

The first workshop is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, 2211 N.E. 139th St. A second workshop in Portland will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at Oregon Health and Science University’s Center for Health and Healing.

The workshops are free to attend, but registration is required.

The workshops will inform parents of federal and state laws that protect children with diabetes and teach parents strategies and tips for ensuring a safe school year. Parents can also learn about preventive measures and how to cope with transitions.

For more information, or to register to a workshop, contact Danielle Yoder at the American Diabetes Association at 888-342-2383, ext. 7296, or email dyoder@diabetes.org.
