Ridgefield — View Ridge Middle School is trying to emphasize the positive. School administrators and counselors introduced the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports program last year; this summer, the student body leadership team held a retreat to get ready to introduce PBIS to incoming seventh-graders. The idea is to encourage positive behaviors rather than focusing on discouraging negative ones. Students who exhibit good behaviors may find themselves rewarded with “REBS Bucks,” which can pay for admission to a special lounge for students and other special events. There will also be a Student of the Month, who’ll get discounts and coupons to spend downtown.
