Clark College will hold a public memorial service Thursday to honor Claude “Skeet” O’Connell, who died July 14 at the age of 96.

Beginning in 1946, O’Connell served as athletic director at Clark for 41 years, coaching basketball, baseball and golf at various times. He coached the Penguins to state junior college basketball titles in 1947, 1954, 1955, and 1956, and a baseball title in 1956.

His influence on Clark College is found in the fact that the memorial will be held in a building named for him — the O’Connell Sports Center, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
