EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State women’s basketball players Kiana Johnson and Akyah Taylor have been suspended for the first nine games of the 2012-13 season. The school says NCAA guidelines “related to receipt of extra benefits” were violated.

Coach Suzy Merchant says Johnson, a sophomore, and Taylor, a redshirt freshman, are “good student-athletes that made a bad decision this summer.” The school did not announce further details.

Johnson and Taylor will be eligible to return Dec. 16 against IPFW.
