INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — KV Racing Technology says Mark Johnson has resigned as general manager of the IndyCar team.
Johnson had held the position since 2006, and he led the integration of the team from the Champ Car series into IndyCar during the 2008 unification.
Although there have been high points for the organization, this season was widely considered a disappointment. The preseason signing of former Formula One star Rubens Barrichello was supposed to push KV Racing to the next level, but it never materialized. Tony Kanaan’s third-place finish in the Indianapolis 500 was the high point of the season.
There’s speculation both Barrichello and third driver EJ Viso are moving to other teams and KV could be either a one-car team with Kanaan. Another option is merging with another small team.
