LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Alabama State notched touchdowns on a blocked punt, a forced fumble and an interception return en route to crushing Alcorn State 54-14 Saturday.
Isaiah Crowell was the Alabama State (3-2, 3-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) stalwart on offense, rushing for 127 yards and a score. Greg Jenkins, the Hornets quarterback that threw for just 26 yards, got 19 of them on a touchdown connection with T.C. McWilliams to open the scoring in the first quarter.
The Hornets rolled from there, going up 34-0 midway through the second with help from Winton Steward’s end-zone fumble recovery and Deandre Rashada’s 19-yard interception return for a score. Crowell also had a 61-yard rushing touchdown during the Alabama State point barrage.
The Braves (1-4, 1-2) pulled within 34-14 at halftime, but Jenkins added an 8-yard rushing score and Corey Schofield recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to help seal the Alabama State win.
