Loyola of Chicago holds off Illinois-Chicago 73-70

CHICAGO (AP) — Milton Doyle scored 18 points as Loyola of Chicago held on for a 73-70 victory over Illinois-Chicago Saturday.

Christian Thomas contributed 14 points.

UIC (3-6) led 39-37 at the half. A Thomas layup followed by a Doyle free throw, a dunk by Osborne and a White jumper put Loyola (4-5) out front 44-39 to start the second period.

Pat Birt’s 3-pointer closed the gap to 52-51 with 11:33 remaining in the game. Loyola stretched the lead again to 72-67 with 21 seconds remaining. Kelsey Barlow made a layup and the following free throw to move within two 72-70.

Loyola’s Thomas made a free throw to make it 73-70 with 10 seconds left. He missed his second, giving the Flames a chance. Barlow missed a 3-point shot. The Flames got the rebound but time ran out before they could get off another shot.

Marc Brown led UIC with 18 points.
