CINCINNATI (AP) — A misdemeanor assault charge against Cincinnati boxer and former World Boxing Association welterweight champion Adrien Broner has been dismissed.
Court records show the charge against 24-year-old Adrien Broner was dismissed Wednesday. Broner’s attorney says the man who accused Broner of punching him in the face in May 2012 did not show up for the trial in Hamilton County Municipal Court in southwest Ohio.
Defense attorney William Welsh says the alleged assault never took place.
Cincinnati’s city solicitor says the case couldn’t proceed without Broner’s accuser and no further action would be taken.
Broner held the WBA welterweight championship title until Saturday. He lost to Marcos Maidana in San Antonio on a unanimous decision after Maidana knocked him out twice.
