Henry, Charlotte beat La Salle 74-65.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Pierria Henry scored 20 points to lead Charlotte past La Salle 74-65 Wednesday night in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams.

Victor E. Nickerson added 13 points, Darion Clark had 12 and DeMario Mayfield scored 10 for Charlotte (13-2).

Ahead 7-4 at the 16:06 mark in the first half, Charlotte ended the half on a 29-10 run.

Charlotte shot 46.4 percent (13 for 28) in the first half and held La Salle to 21.9 percent (7 for 32) shooting in the period to take a 33-17 lead into halftime.

Paced by Ramon Galloway’s 17 points in the second half, La Salle cut the lead to single digits late, but Charlotte shot 50 percent (12 for 24) for the second half and knocked down 17 free throws in the period to seal the victory.

Galloway finished with game-highs of 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the Explorers (10-4).
