Girls basketball: Evergreen 50, Battle Ground 45

Despite being ill, Deja Nicholas scored almost half of her team’s points as Evergreen held off the host Tigers.

Nicholas finished with 25 points and seven assists as Evergreen improved to 2-2 in the 4A Greater St. Helens League.

Malory Olson led Battle Ground with 15 points. Haley Hamilton added 12.

Evergreen coach Jay Foreman said he rested Nicholas frequently, but that she was able to break Battle Ground’s pressure effectively.

Demia Browning had a team-best eight rebounds for Evergreen, and Vela Jackson grabbed six boards.
