NEW YORK (AP) — Baseball players’ association head Michael Weiner says the union will appoint a deputy executive director because of his health issues as he battles a brain tumor.

Weiner said last August that he had been diagnosed with the tumor and he said symptoms had increased in June. He currently can’t move his right side or right arm and must use a wheelchair. His voice sounded gravely.

Speaking Tuesday to the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, Weiner said a No. 2 will be appointed “within a week or two.”

He also said former union head Donald Fehr and No. 2 Gene Orza will not return to the union.
