Business name: Blue Bird Transfer Inc. It is an authorized agent of Atlas Van Lines.

Owner and president: Wade McLaren.

Address: 2500 E. Fifth St.

What the business does: Blue Bird is a family-owned small business offering residential and office moving services. The company also stores household and commercial goods in a 57,000-square-foot, secure, heated warehouse space in Vancouver.

Diverse offerings: McLaren said the company is diverse and offers various options for storage and moving. Blue Bird will handle the complete moving job or offer clients an option to move themselves. They also offer short-term storage rentals, international packing and moving services and piano moving, and will provide the labor for loading/unloading a rental truck.

Greatest challenge: McLaren said his greatest challenge is government restrictions and new rules and laws that make it harder to operate vehicles in a cost-effective way. He said Blue Bird is constantly seeking new options for its trucks and staff to meet the needs of consumers.

What’s ahead: The busiest time for Blue Bird is now. McLaren said the next four months are very busy. He reminds potential customers to make reservations as early as possible.

Owner’s business history: McLaren has owned Blue Bird for 30 years. Some of the staff have been with the company for all of those years, and many for 10 to 20 years.

Year established in Clark County: The Cook family of Camas started the company in 1928. Wade McLaren, his brother Scott and their stepfather Phil Elrod bought the company in 1983. It has remained in the family since that time.

Employees: 24 full-time and about 25 seasonal.
