Sherrod leads Yale past Pennsylvania 79-75

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Brandon Sherrod scored 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting to lead five players in double figures as Yale pulled away from Pennsylvania in the second half for a 79-65 victory in an Ivy League game Saturday night.

Armani Cotton had 15 points and nine rebounds, Michael Grace and Javier Duren scored 10 each and Matt Townsend had 10 points and nine rebounds for Yale (14-7, 8-6), which beat Princeton 71-66 on Friday, their fourth straight victory.

Yale took a 40-38 lead 3:09 into the second half and never trailed. With a 47-44 advantage, Yale scored seven consecutive points to lead 54-44. Penn closed to 54-49, but a seven-point spurt made it 61-49 at 8:27.

Yale shot 82.9 percent from the free-throw line (29 of 35), Penn 75 percent (18 of 24).

Tony Hicks had 16 points, Miles Cartwright 12 and Darien Nelson-Henry 10 for the Quakers.
