Tigers rally against Soriano and beat Nats 5-1

VIERA, Fla. (AP) — The Detroit Tigers rallied for four runs off Rafael Soriano in the seventh inning and beat the Washington Nationals 5-1 Monday.

Given a 1-0 lead, Soriano allowed five hits and a walk, retiring just two batters. Detroit went ahead on RBI singles by Prince Fielder, Alex Avila, Omar Infante and Ramon Santiago. Tyler Collins added a sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Washington starter Jordan Zimmermann, throwing a hard sinker, gave up a leadoff single to Andy Dirks and then retired his next 18 batters.

Detroit starter Max Scherzer gave up five hits in five innings, including Adam LaRoche’s home run in the fourth.

Washington’s Wilson Ramos went 3 for 3.
